Out hiking with the family. Not my thing.

MLK Day here in the States, and the Boy has off. Not so, the Missez, so it’s up & at ‘em as usual, then a whole of nothing ’til the evening.

First day back to school for the boy – snow day yesterday – and he seems happy enough about being here. He’s not like I was at this age!

The Holiday season is over. A bleak winter landscape now awaits. I should be so patient!

Playing Nethack on the eeePC while waiting for the Boy to get out of school. I’m a barbarian. My character too!

Watch Old Bandit Run!

And the winner is...

And the winner is...

Well, it was a haul-and-a-half, but it was worth it. Yesterday, I hit my goal of 50,000 words by the deadline of 11:59 pm, November 30, 2008. That’s right, 50,000 words in just three weeks! Starting so late made the whole thing frenetic and worth while only as an exercise, but it’s nice to know I can do it.

The story is a Young Adult novel about a teenage super-hero, who isn’t super. Set in the real world, with absolutely no super powers or impossible gadgetry involved, it examines how a young man might be able to don a secret identity in order to ferret out and combat crime in his small town, and what the likely outcome of it could be.

It became clear sometime last week that I had two stories to tell about this character, so this book is the first one – the ‘origin’ if you will. Maybe next year, if I can summon the energy, I’ll try this again, and do the sequel.

Anyway, that was my November project. It’s time to get back to SSH.

Now that’s really intimidating!

The more you know, the more you know you DON’T know, right? So the more secure in my knowledge I become, the more ignorant I truly am?

November 26, 2008

Approaching the end of NaNoWriMo & I’m at over 43k words in two & a half weeks. I’ll hit my 50k, which is the goal. Then I re-write. Oy!

Hip deep in NaNoWriMo.org. Making my daily word count actually makes my whole day.

At the boy’s school, ready to pick him up after his first day of kindergarten. What a long, strange trip it’s been & it ain’t over yet.
